Mobile was the name of the game at last week’s Mobile Health Clinics Association Pacific Northwest Coalition. Hosted by the Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) team at the unit’s warehouse, it was the first time the meeting was held in Canada.
The MMU has been a member and co-lead of the Mobile Health Clinics
Association (MHCA) Pacific Northwest chapter for the past three years. The
organization brings together likeminded health-care focused mobile services to
share knowledge, ideas and experiences with the goal of bettering mobile health
solutions. The group hosts regional conferences and an international event each
year for all members. At past events, members of the MMU team have both attended
The April 29 coalition featured presentations from the BC
Cancer Agency Mobile Mammography Screening Program, MHCA Board members and the
MMU team, which included an entertaining and informative overview on the history
and evolution of mobile units. The 25 attendees from both Canada and US
mobile-related organizations also had an opportunity to learn more about their
peers’ programs, and tour units including the MMU and the new BC Cancer Agency
Mobile Mammography Screening Unit. The mobile mammography unit is one of three
in the province and visits over 120 rural communities across BC, including over
40 First Nations communities annually.
To top it off, participants
enjoyed a truly ‘mobile’ lunch – courtesy of a local food truck.
the open discussion, knowledge was shared about the importance of maintaining
units and the roles different team members play, topics which will both be
explored in future MHCA-led webinars.
